Before this flurry of comic writing activity of mine that you’ve heard about but haven’t seen yet from me I wrote many a comic. They were mostly crap. Indeed even Summer Nights while still valid, is nowhere near as good as my recent scripts simply because I’ve learned more about storytelling in the medium than I knew when I wrote that series for Jessica over a year ago. I feel, honestly that each script I’m writing is better, and will read better. I’m hoping youll see the progression once the artists are done. And yet after watching this video by David Smart on Alan Moore and Jason Burrows Neonomicon, I’m reminded that this medium is still trying to figure itself out, and that really, if you can get the reader to the point where they understand the rules of your comic universe, then you really can explore all kinds of worlds. Alan Moore, while not always enjoyable to read, definetly understands this, and this video really just blows my mind, because it takes the simple art of storytelling, and breaks down the layers, that as comic readers, we probably take for granted.
