lost returns tonight.

Ill be at work but is anyone else excited that LOST is back tonight? Only five episodes left this season and then thats it till 2009. I kind of like the shortened season and it should work better next year without the writers strike break thrown in. One week till Iron Man kicks off my summer at the movies. Things are going to start getting very busy here, Ive got mini trips the next three weekends starting with tommorows drive to Windy City Pulp and Paper show, and ending at the end of the month with our train trip to Glacier National Park and Seattle. going to be fun but very very hectic.

The best summer movie lineup ever?

Well. Some of these will not be good. Somewhere one of these will be worse than it should be and some will be better than they should be, but this summer looks to be an complete thrill ride with only one weekend left open (because I am not going to see Sex and the City). Here goes a complete list of where Ill be spending my matinees this summer.
May 2nd. Iron Man. The drunk superhero movie!
May 9th Speed Racer. (This is a kids movie. But look at those special effects).
May 16th Prince Caspian. I was underwhelmed by the first movie but ill still go.
may 23rd. Indiana Jones. possibly the biggest summer movie of the year. Fingers crossed it lives up to the hype.
June 13th. The happening will get my money before the Incredible Hulk. M Night Shylaman is best when he is realistic and this story of bees dying is too real life to pass on. And yeah Ill see the Hulk but Id be surprised if its any good.
June 20th. Get Smart. Steve Carrell as agent Maxwell Smart. Sure thing.
June 27th Wall-E Pixar man come on. and maybe Wanted depending on the reviews.
July 4th Hancock. Ill be in Minnesota when this comes out but its Will Smith on July 4th. Something just feels right about that.
July 11th Hellboy 2. Why is this coming out a week before The Dark Knight. It really limits its audience.
July 18th see above. The DARK KNIGHT!!!!!
July 25th X-files 2. I just rewatched the first movie a couple months ago. What strikes me. It was really well shot for a mid nineties movie. lets hope the truth is still out there.
Wow what a fun summer Im going to have. And August has the freaking Star Wars Animated Movie (that leads into a series) and if we all know one thing, its lately that animated Star Wars are better than the live action ones.

A day of views.

So I’ve spent most of the day watching stuff. I watched the latest two episodes of Torchwood from overseas earlier in the day. I thank the kind british who have uploaded these for us great great great great ,one more great? grandsons of traitors to the crown. I also squeezed in an episode of LOST. Michael being back is very nice and I can see much of the endgame coming together. Of course they could throw another wrench in the storyline at any time.
We walked down to the libary to see King Corn. The light snow falling was the only reminder we had that it was only 34 degrees outside. Our bodies have adopted to this frigid land. I wonder how they will react to the heat of North Carolina summers if we ever go back. King Corn is another make you concerned the world we live in is hell,(which it might be) kind of movie that you just feel bad about after afterwards. But it is very well done and is important to see. I think Ill watch some basketball now and maybe some Futurama to see how bad it could get.

Cloverfield gets a B.

Cloverfield was probably the best movie Ive ever seen in January. That being said I had to watch more than half of the movie standing in the hallway beside the stadium seating. If you have any kind of motion sickness, think twice before seeing this movie on the big screen. Wont spoil anything for you but the monster does kick butt.

DArk knight,

That The Dark Knight trailer that everyone saw this weekend at I Am Legend is now online. What do you think? Heath Ledger is actually pretty right as the Joker. Next summer is really shaping up nice. Next fall on the other hand may be the worst ever, thanks to the writers strike.

Speed Racer may change kids films forever.

Move over Pixar. If what Im hearing about the trailer for the Wachowski’s(Matrix movies) new Speed Racer film animation may take a back seat to live action pretty soon. This image released from USA Today pretty much gives an idea of what kind of hyper cartoon/quasi live aciton thing we will be watching next summer. I’m sure like the Matrix films they did before this will spawn lots of imitators. But for now I just want to see the trailer that’s supposed to hit the intertubes in the next couple of days.

UPDATE: The trailer is out HERE YOU GO The strike may hurt us next fall but the summer movie season looks fine.

movies and comics, oh my!

Went to see American Gangster last night. A very good crime flick and one of the only movies I’ve seen this year that feels like an oscar movie. Denzel Washington should get a nod and the direction of Ridley Scott is focused soley on the story he is telling. Very very good.

But I liked the Darjeeling Limited better. I’ve always had a soft spot for Wes Anderson and this is his most serious film yet. Makes me want to research Indian train lines.

Picked up Hellboy Darkness Calls #6 today and it ends the story for baba yaga yet again. It was a very good Hellboy story overall and I really really love the coloring in this book.

Also got Joss Whedon’s Astonishing X-men # 23 and it was o.k. but not as emotionally charged as the past few issues. Give it a B.
